Lila practises in the area of criminal defence with an added speciality as a youth advocate in the Youth Courts of Tāmaki Makaurau, including Te Kōti Rangatahi and Pasifika Court. Lila moved into sole practice in 2018 and undertakes a variety of criminal matters including judge alone and jury trials, parole and appeal hearings. Prior to her transition to the independent defence bar, Lila gained invaluable experience as a police prosecutor in the Counties Manukau and Auckland districts. She also undertook regulatory prosecutions for Auckland Council.

Lila continues her work as a duty lawyer at the Manukau District Court and is on the Police Detention Legal Assistance Roster.
